wow...really?

  • Jul. 31st, 2007 at 4:41 PM

Has it really been that long since I updated this thing? Holy cow. Sorry about that. I come on here all the time and read, but I never post.

I could sit here and try to recap the last 7 months, but that would just be silly. Let's just say that all is good in the land of me. I have been super busy off and on with various projects and travel. The job has been going very, very well and I got a promotion earlier this month. I am still doing loads of graphics work for Marc and a few other artists and various side projects here and there. I just recently got photoshop on my computer so I can do graphics for my job, which is pretty exciting. On top of my regular duties I am now in charge of the website for our whole department, which is a big deal. I have already started revamping it to make it more eye-catching.

Home life is much the same. Ember is still living with me and that is going pretty well for the most part. I did some travelling in June to Louisiana for Marc's CD release party, which was an absolute blast. I love it down there. Marc came to DC and Baltimore over the past few weeks and I got to catch up with the guys and all my concert friends. It has been a bit of a whirlwind, but that is the way it goes.

Over the next few months work will be BUSY and I will be doing a bit of work travel to Vegas and then Orlando. Might do a few weekend trips to NYC and Busch Gardens at some point too.

That's all I've got for now. I will try to update more often, I promise!

Happy Holidays!

  • Dec. 19th, 2006 at 10:03 AM

Well, it seems like I only post on this thing around the holidays lately.  I still read everything every day, but just have been too tired or busy to post.  I actually miss it, so I am going to try to be better about it.  I promise.

So, since I was last here much has happened.  Hill, Holly and I had our big Vegas Barenaked Ladies Extravaganza.  Much, much fun was had and quality time was spent with my girls.  It is sometimes quite hard having such good friends live so far away, so it is nice when we have those time to all be together.  The trip started out rather rocky though.  I was set to leave for Vegas on a Wednesday afternoon around 3:30, which after my connecting flight would get me into Vegas around 8:30 pm.  Well, thanks to bad weather in Dallas, where I was connecting, I ended up spending the night in the Dallas airport and finally (after many more complications) getting to Vegas around 2pm on Thursday.  For anyone counting, yes, that is over 24 hours travelling time when you add in the time difference.  By the time I got to Vegas I was exhausted and a bit cranky, but I rallied and made the most of it.  Once I got some sleep at around 2am that night I was a much happier camper.  We spent some time in the beautiful spa at Mandalay Bay and did the rock star thing with the BNL.  We then made our way to Phoenix to see Hill's mom and see another BNL show.  It was a whirlwind 4 day trip, but worth it.  I miss the girls already and wish I could be closer, expecially now.

Let's see...what else to tell everyone...?  I won 4 tickets to Universal Studios Theme park in Orlando at my holiday party.  That was fun!  I am really enjoying my job and actually look forward to coming to work every day (for the most part).  I think this is the first time in a long time that I am starting to feel somewhat settled in that regard.  Now, on to finding myself a man and getting a move on in that direction, haha!  I have been so focused on myself these past few years because I wanted to make sure that I was happy and content with me, myself and I.  I couldn't be happier with where I am in my life and I think I am finally ready to start down that path again to find myself a partner.  I am really starting to get baby crazy.  I guess turning 30 next year is part of it.  I am excited about turning 30 though.  I am ready to be out of my 20's!  (we will see how I am feeling when May 2 starts getting closer...haha).

Okay, enough rambling from me.  I just felt the need to write a bit on here today.  I hope everyone is doing well.

I wish each and every one of you a Joyous Holiday Season!

Wow, lots to update on here...

Let's start with my trip to Atlanta. I don't remember a time when I have worked so hard in recent history. My co-worker calculated the hours we worked and it came to 9 days of work totalling 110 hours. Crazy! The show was a huge success. We really made a big impression on our clients and the sales team that I am a part of got a lot of kudos. It was nice to be part of such a great group of people. We did our share of partying as well. One night in particular stands out, as it involves getting pretty slammed with our bosses, smoking cigars and dancing along to a cool jazz trio. Note to self: do not mix white wine, red wine, tequila and martinis....unless getting really drunk is your goal. By the time Sunday rolled around I was toast. But, I had a flight to catch to get back to VA and meet my parents for the Broussard show in Annapolis. The show started at noon and I was at the airport at 10am. Yes, I know...this sounds crazy. But, I didn't plan on going to the show on that day. It was originally scheduled for later in the month but the date was moved.

Anyway...we got their earlier than expected and had to wait for the doors to open. Once we got in I realized that our seats were about 5 feet from the soundboard, so the first person I saw was Arik. We said our hellos and I introduced him to my parents. He was sure to let me know that he had already had 3 jagerbombs, and it was only noon. I knew then that this was going to be a fun afternoon! Joe came out onto the the stage and I went over to say hi. Arik had told me that eventhough SOW wasn't on the bill he was letting Joe and Dave play a few songs before Marc's set. I was super excited about that since my dad is a huge classic rock guy and I really wanted him to hear Joe play. Joe came over and met the parents and we chatted for a few minutes and then he headed back to get ready. When Joe and Dave came out to play Joe joked with the audience saying "Marc decided to cancel and we will be your entertainment for the afternoon". Luckily the audience knew he was joking. Marc ran onstage at some point during their set and made some strange whooping noise, which of course cracked up the whole room. The "Marc and Joe Comedy Hour" had officially begun. Joe and Dave played about 5 songs and won over the crowd, as usual. My dad was definitely impressed!

When Marc came out he only had Joe with him. He informed us that due to the scheduling of a noon show at the same time as The Saints football game, the rest of the band would not be joining them. He said that they only got out of playing by promising to do 2 weeks worth of Marc and Joe's laundry. HAHA! So, Marc let us all know that he had never played music this early and actually rarely ever saw daylight, so we were in for an interesting show. He pulled out his iPod and tuned up Bill Withers "Lovely Day" and proceeded to lip synch and dance along to it. Everyone in the audience was going nuts at this point and it just got better from there. Marc and Joe didn't have a setlist, so they took suggestions from the audience for most of the show. We were treated to Marc playing a few more songs in his iPod from the new album, Joe singing the first verse of "You Can Leave Your Hat On" and making all the girls swoon, Marc's enlightening discussion on the state of the music industry, more dancing to random songs on his iPod, and jagerbombs for every score by The Saints. Marc authored a new quote for my t-shirt company after one score, "Jagerbombs! Now! God-Doggit!". Classic. After about 2 hours the guys had to wrap it up, much to the chagrin of everyone. No one, including Marc and Joe, wanted the show to be over. We were all having entirely too much fun. Right after the show Arik came over and asked if we wanted to go talk to Marc. That was so sweet of him. We went backstage for a few minutes and I introduced Marc to my parents. Everyone was buzzing over how much fun the show was. I told Marc about his quote making the list and he got a kick out of that. After a bit we said our good-byes and we left them so we could grab lunch in the restaurant.

That show is definitely in my Top 5 shows of all time. I wish the whole thing was videotaped for repeated viewings, haha!

That's all for now. HAPPY THANKGSGIVING to everyone! Hope you all are doing well. I will try to catch up on everyone's lives soon!

Work is crazy for me right now as we are all gearing up for our big Expo. I leave on Friday for Atlanta and won't be back until the 19th. My parents are actually picking me up from the airport and drivng us straight to Marc's show in Annapolis. I am going to be so exhausted!

Catch everyone on the flip side!

As if I needed another reason to get out and vote today I see this news story.

The FBI is looking into allegations from Jim Webb's campaign that Virginia Democrats are getting suspicious telephone calls from so-called volunteers threatening voters with arrest if they go to the polls.

News4 received an e-mail from a viewer in Virginia who said he received one of those phone calls. The viewer's e-mail stated after he had voted, he received a call from an unknown caller who said they knew the voter was registered out of state and would be arrested if they voted today.

The viewer's e-mail stated he's been registered to vote in Virginia for the last three years and has the Virginia Voter Registration card to prove it.

The Webb campaign also said other voters are getting calls telling them their polling location has changed.

There are also allegations that fliers that say, "Skip This Election," are blanketing African-American communities.

VOTE!!!!!

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The Midland

"You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio.

Newsflash: Kelly Clarkson is NOT FAT!

http://www.idontlikeyouinthatway.com/2006/10/kelly-clarkson-is-still-healthy.html

And people wonder why we have a generation of teenage girls wasting away into nothing from various eating disorders. For cripes sake people. Kelly is probably a size 8. That is not fat! Ugh, I saw this and it really ticked me off.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Anyone doing anything fun tonight? I may go hand out candy to the trick-or-treaters at my sister's house. Not sure yet. We didn't get any kids at my apartment last year, so I didn't even buy candy this year.

So I just realized that I haven't updated this thing since October 12th? Yikes.

Work is very busy but not overwhelming. I feel like I am where I am meant to be right now. I am really looking forward to our Expo in November, eventhough I know it will be high stress and tons of work. I thrive in that environment. Hell, I have spent over 10 years of my life as a theatrical stage manager. That is pretty damn high stress. ;)

Over the last week I have gotten some unexpected emails with new graphics projects. It is nice to know that connections I have made are panning out and I am able to help some friends with promoting their albums and tours. It is a satisfying feeling knowing that people can count on me for something as important as that.

That being said, two of my old faves needed some graphics for their tours and Rachel asked for my assistance. If you are a fan of these two, please use these banners to promote!

Today has been a crappy day so far all around. :( I had a customer bring me to tears this morning, the coffee maker is broken, Ember's dog woke me up with her crying and I forgot my breakfast. So, all in all...today is ranking at about a D+.

Hey friends!

So, Hillary, Holly and I have been working on a fun little project for a while now. We go to a lot of concerts, which most of you know about us, and we hear a lot of crazy things. We started writing down some of the "quotes of the night" and came up with a great list. We decided to take these quotes and turn them into fun t-shirts.

I am still working on about 5 more designs, so keep checking back to see what's new.

Of course, if anyone has some hilarious quotes that they think might make a funny shirt, pass that quote along!

So, I tried to have a relaxing weekend and do nothing but veg. I succeeded in doing pretty much nothing, but I woke up sick on Saturday, so I wasn't able to really enjoy it. I still feel like crap today and will try to get out of work early so I can go back to bed.

I did see United 93 this weekend. All I can say is...wow. It was hard to watch, but at the same time impossible to look away from. It was exceptionally made and told the story of what happened in such a way that you felt like you were there. If you have the emotional ability to watch it, I definitely think it is a must see.

Cope at 9:30 Club

  • Sep. 21st, 2006 at 10:21 AM

Citizen Cope's show is DC last night was awesome! It was packed to the gills and everyone was going bonkers. Cope started with a few songs from TCGR and then did Brother Lee, which is definitely becoming one of my new fave Cope songs. He did a nice mix of new and old songs throughout the night. The highlight though had to be when Chuck Brown (http://www.windmeupchuck.com) came onstage to sing a song with Cope. Chuck Brown is a legend in the DC music scene and one of Cope's biggest influences. It was so amazing seeing him, as he is so incredibly talented. You could see the mutual admiration he and Cope had for eachother. We had such a good time at the show! If Cope is coming to your town on this tour, don't miss it!

The Last Kiss - Oh I am Fired Up!

  • Sep. 17th, 2006 at 7:53 PM

I remember reading a blog last week where someone was on a serious rant about Zach Braff and how his latest movie, The Last Kiss, was utter garbage. I remember getting all up in arms about it. Why? I guess because I really enjoyed Garden State and figured that this latest movie would be just as good. Why did I think that? Who knows? Well...after seeing this 2 hour long piece of garbage I now wish I had paid a bit more attention to the blogger's comments.

For anyone who was thinking from the preview that this was another kinda quirky "dramady" like Garden State, well, you will be extremely disappointed. Honestly, I almost got up and left, but hesitated because I was really hoping that the movie would redeem itself in some way by the end. Well...it didn't. If you don't want to know how this movie ends, I suggest you stop reading now, because my rant is just beginning....spoiler and rest of rant begins now )

in memoriam...

Let's take the day to remember the people who lost their lives 5 years ago in the attacks on the World Trade Center buildings, American Airlines Flight 11, American Airlines Flight 77, United Airlines Flight 175, United Airlines Flight 93 and the US Pentagon.

I tried to post the list of names but LJ said my post was too long. That says enough right there. )

I had a lazy, boring 3 day weekend. Spent the entire time in Fredericksburg with my parents just chilling. I watched a bunch of movies, played blackjack, went shopping, and that's about it.

I am looking forward to the short week. Looks like Melissa and I are going to trek to Towson on Friday night to go see Will Hoge and The Brakes (who are opening). I haven't seen Will for a while, so that should be fun. The traffic and the drive, however, will be a tad bit annoying. Oh well, such is life.

I saw 2 fantastic concerts this weekend. The GGD/Counting Crows show was so great. First off, there was an unannounced opener on the bill. Adam came out to introduce his friend Eliot, who ended up being Eliot Morris. Did you ever meet him when he was opening for Marc last summer with Glen Phillips? Anyway, last year at Rams Head Live we had a fun time hanging backstage with him. It was when Tom was out with the guys on the bus. Anyway….really funny story. We were in the dressing room with Marc, Joe, Chad, Glen and Ross and Eliot comes in a makes a b-line to the sink and proceeds to lather up all of his exposed skin with soap. He is mid lather when he notices all of us in the room. We are all looking at him like he has lost his mind. He rinses off and tells us what is going on. Apparently and extremely overzealous fan has just mauled him by the bar. She was kissing, grabbing, hugging all over him. He finally had to tell her, “Hey, wait, I am married!” to which she replied, “Me too!” and proceeded to kiss him again. He made his escape and felt the need to clean her off of him. We all laughed our asses off for a good 10 minutes about it. So, on Saturday as Lindi and I were making our way out of Nissan Pavilion we noticed Eliot over by the merch booth. He was signing cds for a few people so we went over to say hello. I reminded him of the story and watching his face change as soon as he remembered the story was priceless. We had a great laugh and were able to catch up for a few minutes. That was fun.

Anyway, back to the show. Eliot was awesome. The last time I saw him he was solo acoustic, which didn’t really do him justice. He had a full band this time and they really impressed me. He won over the crowd for sure. The GGD were quite good. I saw them open for Bon Jovi in 2003 and they bored me to tears then. They acted like they didn’t even want to be there and were awful. This time it was like a totally different band. Johnny was so energetic, funny and sounded great. I really enjoyed their set. I am not a super huge GGD fan, but they have a handful of songs that I like.

The Counting Crows, honestly, blew me away. They opened with "Anna Begins", one of my top 5 favorite songs of all time. I was pleasantly surprised that they really stayed on the melody for 95% of the songs. I know that is rare and Adam usually sings all the songs very different from how they are on the album. Maybe someone clued him in that his fans want to be able to sing along. J I didn’t realize until I was listening to them live just how important in my life this concert would end up being. I was the biggest crows fan from 1994-96, wearing out 3 copies of August and Everything After. I was standing there on Saturday hearing Adam sing "A Murder of One" and found myself tearing up a bit. SO many great memories are connected to their music for me. I am so glad I went. Eliot actually came out to sing "Hangin Around" with them, along with a bunch of kids and fans on stage. Such a fun show and one I will remember always.

Last night Melissa and I went to Jammin’ Java to see a songwriters circle. It was four local guys and their guitars on stage singing together. Very fun, chill and relaxing evening. It is so nice having a concert going friend again. J
