The Last Kiss - Oh I am Fired Up!
I remember reading a blog last week where someone was on a serious rant about Zach Braff and how his latest movie, The Last Kiss, was utter garbage. I remember getting all up in arms about it. Why? I guess because I really enjoyed Garden State and figured that this latest movie would be just as good. Why did I think that? Who knows? Well...after seeing this 2 hour long piece of garbage I now wish I had paid a bit more attention to the blogger's comments.
For anyone who was thinking from the preview that this was another kinda quirky "dramady" like Garden State, well, you will be extremely disappointed. Honestly, I almost got up and left, but hesitated because I was really hoping that the movie would redeem itself in some way by the end. Well...it didn't. If you don't want to know how this movie ends, I suggest you stop reading now, because my rant is just beginning....
The seemingly very strong woman character in the film gets completely betrayed by this man and is told by her adulterous mother that "she needs to stop living in black and white, because life is in the grays". The mother is telling her daughter this right after she finds out that the man she loves and is having a baby with just had sex with another woman (while professing "that it didn't mean anything"). BULLSHIT! When it comes to love and choosing a mate for life, you have every right to "live in black and white" because you will find someone who actually loves you and won't fuck another girl while you are pregnant and living together. Those guys DO exist. Too many women give these assholes who fuck them over a second chance and never go out and see that there are better options out there.
The movie ended with the girl forgiving him. It literally made me sick to my stomach. EVERY relationship in the movie was fucked up. I'm sorry, but it felt like a movie disguised as a chick flick designed to propel this Hollywood train of thought that cheating is okay as long as you say you are sorry. BULLSHIT. have I said bullshit enough times yet? No. Here's one more...BULLSHIT! The previews for this movie are so incredibly misleading. Zach Braff's character is completely unlikable, and in my opinion, possibly the worst choice of role for Zach to have chosen for himself. I understand that actors often play characters that they do not have anything in common with and maybe do not agree with their actions, but this movie seemed to be turning a horrific situation into romantic comedy fodder. There is nothing funny about being pregnant with a man's baby and believing that you are building a life with this man, only to have him go fuck some 20 year old ditzy college girl because "he is afraid that there were going to be no more surprises in his life". Yeah, because there is nothing surprising about having a baby or getting married or all the rest that comes with it. BULLSHIT!
Okay, I am gonna stop now. As you can tell, this movie hit a nerve with me and I felt the need to rant about it.
